Hacking

Hacking didn’t used to be a bad thing. In the early days of computers, a hacker was a really good programmer. Someone who hacked away at the code to make it smaller and faster. You see in those days memory was a premium and the smaller the program the better.

Today I like to think of Hackers as the people who challenge the system, and think outside the box to come up with a solution to a problem.

Here are some of my favorite hacks. If you see something you like, please use it for good. There is enough badness in the world, you don’t need to add to it.

RFID Bracelet

A building that I need to access constantly gives you a little RFID fob to put on your keychain to allow entry. This is great, but I am always having things in my hands when I need to get in. Which means putting something down and fishing my keys out, or planning ahead and having my keys in my hand with everything else.

While browsing Amazon for a part for another project, I came across a cool rubber bracelet that holds an RFID chip and can be programmed.  Hmmmm…  I have a ProxMark RFID tool.  I checked the fob and it is a format that can be easily copied, so I order the bracelet. After copying the fob data to it – It works like a champ!

Now I just put the thing on, it isn’t in the way, and I can get in the building easily when my arms are full of stuff.

 Pentesting

RasPwn

The RasPwn OS was a super vulnerable version of the OS for the Raspberry Pi. It was really nice for practicing different penetration tests. But it has gone away. I went looking for it the other day and can’t find the original distro site.
